Care for Parts
Stainless Steel Parts
314L stainless steel parts can be very durable, as long as they are handled and cared for correctly.
The natural color of steel is silver, while gold is a gold plating that the pieces are given, just like silver. To ensure that the gold plating lasts for a long time, some care must be taken.
To clean a stainless steel piece, you should use a soft cloth or sponge with a neutral detergent and wipe in the direction of the steel grain to avoid scratching the piece. If the piece is very dirty, you should use a specific product or one with degreasing properties. You should then rinse the piece under running water and dry it with a cloth.
The appearance of stains and darkening of pieces in areas where the piece is in contact with the skin (especially earrings) may be associated with the pH of the skin and perspiration. Some pieces can last several years with a customer and others that may last less time, due to these factors. Therefore, in this case, the customer should opt to buy pieces in silver without gold plating, as the appearance of stains will continue to appear on other materials.
It is important for the customer to know that the trinkets are pieces made of zinc or copper alloy imitating gold and we do not sell these types of materials on our website. These materials oxidize over time and the entire piece becomes a different color.
Stainless steel does not oxidize, if a stain eventually appears on a piece, it may have been due to a chemical reaction through contact of a product with the piece, for example.
Silver Pieces 925
925 Silver is the most valued in fine jewelry and indicates that the metal alloy is made up of 92.5% pure silver.
The silver pieces are rhodium plated and the gold pieces are 24k gold plated.
All pieces containing more than 2g of silver are hallmarked by the Portuguese Mint.
The appearance of tarnish is a natural process in silver as a result of oxidation. In summer, silver pieces become tarnished more quickly due to the acidity of perspiration and humidity in the air. However, it is possible to keep your silver pieces shiny and lustrous by following certain care guidelines.
- Clean silver pieces regularly with a cleaning cloth;
- Wash silver pieces in running water to keep them clean, dry immediately to prevent them from tarnishing;
- If the pieces start to oxidize, they should be cleaned by professionals at a jewelry store.
Care to be taken
To keep your pieces looking beautiful and prevent the gold plating from fading, you should:
- Avoid contact with abrasive products: perfumes, sunscreens, makeup, creams, hair dyes, detergents and/or other products that may contain chemicals;
- Avoid using the items during physical exercise;
- Remove the parts by applying disinfectant alcohol or using rubber/latex gloves;
- Do not use the pieces in the sea, swimming pools or when bathing;
- Avoid excessive wear of parts;
- Store parts separately from others;
- Clean the items before storing them, as perspiration and the skin's pH, as well as the use of cosmetics, can alter their original characteristics.
